Three Great Alternative Energy Sources

There is no doubt that the world needs more energy, but how do we get it? In the United States, it is estimated that we use about 15 trillion calories of energy each year. 30% of that comes from fossil fuels and fuels from biomass, a.k.a. energy from plants. The other 70% comes from energy derived from the sun, wind, wave, and geothermal sources.

The sun is a virtually unlimited energy source, so surely, we should be using it to power our homes, right? Unfortunately, most of us do not have access to sunlight 24/7. While, like most people, you may be able to get by with a few bottles of suntan lotion, there are a few other options for solar energy that you can use on a regular basis.

Solar energy, which harnesses the energy of the sun, is one of the world’s most promising sources of alternative energy, with many countries pursuing renewable sources like solar panels. From offices to households, people are adopting solar power as an alternative to electricity, which can help them reduce a few extra expenses. Geothermal energy

Geothermal energy is the most common way to create heat, but it is also the most expensive since it requires drilling into the Earth to find an area of sufficient thermal energy. We also let in water and oil when we drill into the Earth. Still, at the fault lines of these old continents, geothermal energy is usually the most accessible and environmentally sustainable as we can avoid digging and the use of water and oil.

The main reason geothermal energy is not more popular is that it is just too hard to get a hold of in the United States. The United States sits on top of a lot of rocks, which is great for oil, but not so hot when it comes to geothermal energy. There are existing geothermal fields in the United States, but those are small compared to what there is in the rest of the world, and that’s why it’s so hard to get a hold of.
